Silver Star Medal
Description
1 3/4" diameter.
Awarded for conspicuous gallantry, the Silver Star is the third-highest decoration awarded to American combat heroes, conferred exclusively for valor in battle. Plated in 24-karat gold to underscore the significance of the Silver Star, this coin can be engraved with the honoree's name and date of award.
The Silver Star is unique because it is awarded to members of any service branch. Unyielding determination in the face of the enemy is an American trait regardless of uniform, and the Silver Star has been presented to members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines.
The Silver Star is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity with the U.S. Armed Forces, distinguished himself or herself by extraordinary heroism. Service given includes while in action against an enemy of the United States, while engaged in conflict with an opposing foreign force, and while in service with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing party.
This coin commemorates the bravery and selfless service of America's military men and women who take action in defense of liberty.
